Back to School and the end of term...

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori...

Te Kinga students had a great week that included learning new games and skills while using Te Reo Māori...

This game is called Mauī - Matou (left-right). It is played with rākau and as we found out it is extremely physical, competitive and fun to play!

We also learnt the traditional Māori game Ki o Rahi  Whether you played the Taniwha or Ki Oma game - everyone had a great time!

We also made some new poi for our Kapa Haka Festival in November...

The completion our Paper Mache animal masks and Term 3...

We spent time adding extra layers over our features, then we began to paint, fur and texture.

After we completed the masks we created short plays with the animals as characters - then we displayed them on our wall. The goal was to make realistic paper mache animal masks - do you think we achieved it?

And finally...

On the last day of the term we tried out being special effects technicians (like the people who work in the movie industry). We got the idea from a school journal - a warning that the images are quite gruesome!

Term 3 - learning in Te Kinga continues despite the Lockdown...

Let's go back to the day before the lockdown (August 17th) - here are our West-A-Maths teams at Reefton Year 7/8 Zaine, Tara, Blake and Uriah and Year 6/7 Kaelyn, Mackenzie, Skye and Leo. The Year 7/8 team came 3rd in their competition and the 6/7 really enjoyed the experience!

Learning from home...

Te Kinga students truly embraced their Home-Learning programme and should be proud of the way they managed themselves and their time to complete their work. Here are some highlights...

                Our Amazing Animal Poetry...

                                                                  Lions by Anika Grant

                                                           Lions are a scary beast
                                                        With enormous, scary teeth
They love to eat all sorts of meat
To a lion you are a feast!

                                                          Lions have great big jaws
They creep around on their paws
In their paws are giant claws
And on your bones they’d love to gnaw!

Kimi is my Best Friend! by Blake Walker

Kimi is my best friend
Her fur is blonde and fluffy
She loves playing in the mud
And ends up looking scruffy!

Kimi is my best friend
She likes to take our socks
Sometimes we let her
Just because she rocks!

Kimi is my best friend
She loves to get cuddled
Sometimes she gets the Zoomies
And ends up very muddled!

My Cat Panda by Jacqueline F.M

My cat Panda is very soft
She’s black and fat
She hunts in the dark at night
When she is a hungry cat

She is happy when she sees me
Running to my feet
So I give her a snack
Of her favourite kitty meat!

Snakes by Kaelyn Klempel

Some snakes are poisonous,
Some snakes are deadly,
All snakes are ravenous,
And none are very friendly!

So if you ever go in the bush,
Snakes are always there,
So please remember to shush,
Or they will eat your ear.

But please do not be scared,
Snakes are not so bad,
You just have to be prepared,
In case you make one mad!

Pandas By Krystal Dhakal

Pandas come from China
They love to eat bamboo
They are very lazy
And prefer to sit and chew

Black and white and fluffy
Soft and gentle too
People seem to love them
And I really do!

Dogs by Mackenzie Raymond

Friendly creatures
cute and playful pals
While cats are lazy sleepers
dogs stay up and howl

They’re great friends to have around
Pleasing you is their goal
And if they they do the puppy eyes
They will take your heart and soul

Now they can get into some trouble
Digging up the ground
But that’s just the life
Of those cute and fluffy Hounds

You’ve heard the phrase
‘Dog is man’s best friend’
Well it’s true because when you get home
They’re just round the bend

FATBOY by Makayla Goord

I have a cat named Fatboy
And we called him that
Because he is fat and a boy,
And a very grumpy cat!

He is very sleek
And he sneaks around
He runs to my bed
To sleep without a sound

He pesters me for lunch
He pesters me for tea
And hisses at my sister’s kitten
When she steals his meat!

My Cat by Morgan Butler

My cat likes Birds and mice
To her they  are nice treats
She  is quite a  ‘foodie’
In the world of what cats eat

When she is being  sneaky
she never leaves her tracks
All day my cat is  sleepy
She knows how to relax!

She likes it when it is pitch black
Her eyes shining bright
Planning her next attack
Her favourite time is the night

About anything but herself
She doesn't seem to care
But her purr does tell me
That she likes to know I’m there

I am a Cat by Skye Whetter

I am a cat.

I sit on this mat.

No one can sit on this mat,

No, this mat is my mat.

I am a cat.

And I like to purr.

I am a cat,

And I lick my fur.

I am a cat and I sit on your lap

I show my love by clawing deep into your skin

I am a cat and I sit on your lap

I watch you face as you hold in the pain from within

I am a cat and I am pure evil

I am a cat and I hate weasels

My Pet Cat by Sophie-Lee

My cat is fluffy

His fur is sleek

His eyes are dark

And he likes to sneak

Around the house

Ready to play

At any time

Of the night or day

He gets really scratchy

When he needs some rest

But he is so cute and cuddly

In his cat bed nest.
