Week 4

 Week 4 in Te Kinga

On Tuesday this week we had the Midland Line Schools' Cross Country Race in Kumara. We had 13 students qualify for the West Coast regionals so that was a fantastic result! Here are some highlights from the day...

Literacy in Te Kinga...

In Te Kinga we are learning about the weather through our literacy cycle. This week groups created clouds (by reading instructions carefully), we read an article online about clouds from NIWA and we looked for different types of clouds using description cards. As you can probably guess Literacy in Te Kinga covers all sorts of ways of gathering information!

Technology Thursdays in Te Kinga and at Grey High...

The Year 6 students remain at school and usually get busy in the kitchen, then practice their digital skills later in the day. This week they made pumpkin soup with a pumpkin (grown in our garden) and cheese and scones - YUM YUM!

The Year 7/8 Students travel to Grey High in the morning and return in the afternoon. I called in for a visit and found some exciting things going on in Hard Materials and Science Learning...

Week 3

 Week Three in Te Kinga...

In week three we had a lot going on in Te Kinga...

We tried a new Maths activity - 'Which One Doesn't Belong?' In this activity we try to figure out which number, shape or object doesn't belong...There are so many possibilities in this activity, it really gets you thinking!

On Wednesday 18th, Makayla, Kaelyn, Blake, Atiulagi, Aroha, Uriah, Pippa and Zoe took part in a Hockey Tournament in Greymouth. We played 6 games in our pool (and won ALL of them) then a semi final against the other top scoring team in our pool (and won this!). We then played Kumara who won their pool competition...and we came out on top! This was a superb effort as half of our team had not played hockey before! Here's some photos...

Meanwhile back at school... the other Te Kinga students designed some excellent board games about the weather. The design brief included that the game must be fun and educate people about the weather...

Check out this amazing West Coast double rainbow, after a week of stormy weather!

 Week 2 in Te Kinga...

This week our year 7/8 students went back to Technology at Grey High - they were really looking forward to this! Back at school the Year 6's have a Technology and Leadership day when the other members of the class are away. This week Brianna showed us how to make Yema Balls (a Filipino sweet) and we did some other baking to share with the rest of the school. The Yema Balls were DELICIOUS - thanks for sharing Brianna!

Later in the day, we showed Moana students how to play Target Ball - they had some great skills!

Back to school ... Term 2 in Te Kinga

Week one...

We have had a very busy week in Te Kinga! In sport we have been learning some new 'invasion games' to build our skills in passing and throwing balls, creating and moving into space as well as attacking and defending skills. Here we are playing Tapu Ae, a traditonal Māori game. Later on in the week we taught Moana children how to play...

Learning to read and follow instructions in Literacy - making a thermometer...
