Week 8/9

 Week 8

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

In Te Kinga we had a fantastic week of celebrating Te Reo Māori - this included making a class set of poi for Moana to practice with, and we had a lot of fun across the whole school with tītī tōrea games. One of the biggest achievements for the week was the whole class revising and completing their mihi in front of the class. It was beautiful to listen to all of them - so special to individuals and also a unique part of who we are as people of Aotearoa.

PAMU FARM VISIT

On the morning of Tuesday 13th September we set off to one of the PAMU (formally land-corp) farms in our area. We wanted to see the differences in how a government farm is operated and also to look at the safety involved in this special type of work place. Cameron (Blake's Dad) also made us do a lot of maths and think about the science involved with farming. It was really interesting! The bobby-claves made a cute finish to our day.
PAMU Farms sponsor our school vans too!

So cute!

These guys will join a herd when they're old enough...

In between hail showers at the farm!

Hi-Viz is not an option on PAMU farms...

The science of growing grass is explained.

At the office for maths - how much dry matter do cows eat a day?

Rotary Speech Night

Blake and Madison had a great night at the Rotary Speech Competition. Blake about 'Why Dogs are better than Cats' and Madison shared her thoughts about how we might be perceived by our names. Both of our speakers spoke extremely well and despite not placing, should be very proud of their outstanding effort put into this event.

Week 9

Kids Lit Quiz

Kaelyn, Madison, Michael and Morgan went off to Kids Lit on Monday 19th September. The finish in the top 5 teams and there were just points between the places...well done team!

Finishing Keeping Ourselves Safe...

Look at these crazy kids doing the Safety Dance Challenge! CPR was a popular dance move!

Week 7

 Fire Service Finale

On Tuesday we had our final visit from our friends at the Fire Service. We met two of the local volunteers who give up their own time to help keep us safe AND we also had a visit from the fire truck!

Whacky Wednesday!

This week we also had a special Whacky Wednesday Mufti Day - can you tell who is who?

The Brunner Town Heroes!

For topic we started by making some art-works and turned our families into cartoon-style figures. We modelled them off the 'Higglytown Heroes' - here are some great examples...

Then in groups, Te Kinga students made scripts for a puppet show involving these characters. The show had to include an emergency and at least one of our emergency services/people that help us in the community. After that they constructed a set for their puppet show...

Then came the filming - it was a long process but worth it in the end! This was our first time doing anything like this so there are parts we would've done differently and parts we are very proud of! Te Kinga will share them with the rest of the school in Week 8 - what do you think?
