Week 1 2023

 Welcome to Te Kinga 2023!

It's a brand New Year - nau mai, haere mai  - returning and new students/families of Te Kinga! Looking ahead, we have a very exciting Term 1 ahead of us... these events will be reported on each week so remember to check in weekly to see what we have been up to! Here are some highlights from the short week that began the term...

There's nothing like co-operative games to bring people together and of course to have a bit of first-week fun! Here we are playing  'Satellites' from the 'Movewell' classroom resource.

Over the week we have been learning about Aotearoa/New Zealand Histories. This included events in our timeline leading up to the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We completed an amazing shared art-work (below) which highlights both the Māori and European histories of the time. We learnt about the different perspectives of the people who lived during this time as well as the 3 principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi...Protection, Partnership and Participation.

We also explored the difference between Mihimihi and Pepeha in our Te Reo Māori/Tikanga Māori studies and we are working towards presenting these in coming weeks.

In Te Kinga, we always complete the week with 'Shout Outs' - a way for students to acknowledge each other for e.g. excellent work, friendship, achievement. You can see below that our students are always enthusiastic to speak well of their peers and you can see also that the first week back can be VERY tiring! Well done everyone!
