Te Kinga shines at Kapa Haka Festival

On Friday 26th November, Te Kinga students took part in the regional Kapa Haka Festival in Hokitika. The students worked hard on their performance all year and it showed. What was also clear on the stage was the mana the Te Kinga students brought to the stage and our school by fully embracing this part of Māori culture and the tikanga (rules/traditions) that go with it. The main theme of our performance was 'aroha' or love - something we felt was an important message for the world right now. Our performance was dedicated to Hira (a former student of mine) who sadly passed away this year - the last waiata was written especially for her and in her memory.

As their teacher I couldn't be more proud and they truly shone on the day amongst the many schools that took part. We owe a big KIA ORA to Di, Te Hani and Max for their input also. Enjoy...
